Do I really need a suit for a meeting?

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

What do you wear for your meetings? Most Finnish people prefer comfortable t-shirts, pullovers, and jeans. It may give a wrong impression at a meeting, however. The dress code of Japanese business culture stands for protocol and manners. Uniform is a great solution for each company or specific position to fulfill the l requirements. People, who are representing companies tend to be required to wear suits in Japan as they need to express their respects to the clients by wearing sophisticated outfits. Personally, I recommend Finnish clients to wear formal clothes to give the right impression to their Japanese counterparts. For face-to-face meetings, dark color suits for males and formal clothes with heeled shoes for females are preferable.
